Question 1

How do I choose the right carpet for my home?

Accepted Answer

Start with the room. Bedrooms and basements can go soft and thick. Stairs and hallways need something dense that handles daily traffic. Pets and kids push you toward a tighter, stain-resistant weave. At the free in-home estimate we bring samples so you can see them in your own light.

Question 2

Does the in-home estimate cost anything?

Accepted Answer

No. The visit and the written quote are free, and there's no pressure to hire us.

Question 3

Which carpet material do you recommend?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the room and the budget. Polyester is soft and resists stains well. Nylon is tougher and holds up in busy spots. We'll explain the tradeoffs and let you pick.

Question 4

How do you price a carpet job?

Accepted Answer

The price covers the carpet, the pad, removal of the old floor, and the install. We give you one written total after we've measured, so you know the number before we start.

Question 5

How long does a carpet install take?

Accepted Answer

Most carpet jobs are finished in one day. A larger house or a lot of stairs can take longer, and we'll tell you that at the estimate.

Question 6

How should I take care of new carpet?

Accepted Answer

Vacuum regularly, blot spills right away, and clean it professionally on the schedule the manufacturer recommends. Michigan winters mean salt and grit get tracked in, so a good mat at the door makes a real difference.

Question 7

Do you warranty your carpet installation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We back our installation with a 1-year workmanship warranty.

Question 8

Will you take out and haul away my old carpet?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Removal and disposal of the old carpet and pad is part of the job.

Question 9

Do I need to move my furniture?

Accepted Answer

Please clear small items, fragile pieces, and anything on the floor. Tell us about heavier furniture when you book and we'll plan around it.

Question 10

What if you find a problem under the old carpet?

Accepted Answer

It happens, especially in older Detroit homes. If we find a damaged or uneven subfloor, we'll show you, explain the fix, and give you the price before going ahead.

Question 11

Can I see samples before I decide?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We bring samples to your home so you can see them next to your walls, furniture, and daylight.

Question 12

How do I schedule an installation?

Accepted Answer

Call us, email the office, or fill out the estimate form on this site. We're available Monday through Saturday, 7am to 7pm.

Question 13

What hardwood do you install?

Accepted Answer

Engineered hardwood is our go-to, because it handles Michigan's swings in humidity better than most. We also install hardwood in a range of colors, plank widths, and finishes. We'll show you samples at the free estimate.

Question 14

Do you offer solid and engineered hardwood?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Engineered hardwood has a real wood top layer over a stable core, so it handles seasonal changes well and can go over more kinds of subfloors. Solid hardwood is a single piece of wood and suits floors that stay dry and stable. We'll recommend one for your home and tell you why.

Question 15

Can I see hardwood samples at home?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Seeing a sample in your own light and next to your own walls is the best way to choose.

Question 16

Which is better for a Detroit basement or older home?

Accepted Answer

In a basement or a home with a lot of humidity swings, engineered hardwood or luxury vinyl plank is usually the safer choice. In a main-floor living room or bedroom, either type of hardwood can work. We'll check the subfloor and moisture before we recommend anything.

Question 17

Does the subfloor need prep?

Accepted Answer

Often a little. Older homes can have uneven or worn subfloors. We level and repair them as part of the job when needed, and we tell you the cost before we begin.

Question 18

Do you warranty hardwood installation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our installation carries a 1-year workmanship warranty.

Question 19

How long does a hardwood floor last?

Accepted Answer

With normal care, a good hardwood floor can last for many years. Keep grit and salt off it, wipe spills quickly, and use felt pads under furniture.

Question 20

How do I clean hardwood?

Accepted Answer

Sweep or dry-mop regularly and use a cleaner made for wood floors. Avoid soaking the floor with water.

Question 21

How long does the install take?

Accepted Answer

Most hardwood jobs are finished in one day. Bigger areas can take longer, and we'll give you the timeline at the estimate.

Question 22

What if you find a problem during installation?

Accepted Answer

We stop, show you what we found, and explain the options. Nothing gets added to your quote without your OK.

Question 23

Can I use different hardwood in different rooms?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Plenty of customers pick one floor for the main living space and something different upstairs or in a bedroom. We'll help the choices work together.

Question 24

Why choose luxury vinyl over other floors?

Accepted Answer

Luxury vinyl plank is tough, water-resistant, and comfortable underfoot. It looks like wood, it doesn't swell when a basement gets damp, and it cleans up easily. That makes it a favorite for Michigan basements, kitchens, and busy family rooms.

Question 25

What vinyl styles do you install?

Accepted Answer

We install luxury vinyl plank (LVP), vinyl tile, and sheet vinyl, in homes and in commercial spaces. We can also lay LVP in herringbone and other patterns.

Question 26

Do you do free in-home estimates for vinyl?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We come to you, measure, show samples, and give you a written quote at no charge.

Question 27

How long does vinyl flooring last?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the product and the traffic. A thicker wear layer holds up better in busy rooms and commercial spaces. We'll point you to the right one for your space.

Question 28

Do you warranty vinyl installation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our installs come with a 1-year workmanship warranty.

Question 29

How does vinyl cost compare to other floors?

Accepted Answer

Luxury vinyl plank typically costs less than hardwood and often lands near carpet, depending on the product. Your written quote after the free in-home estimate sets the real number.

Question 30

Is vinyl flooring waterproof?

Accepted Answer

Quality luxury vinyl is water-resistant on the surface, which is why it works so well in basements, kitchens, and laundry rooms. Standing water that gets under the seams or from a leaking subfloor is still a problem, so we always check for moisture first.

Question 31

How long does a vinyl install take?

Accepted Answer

Most vinyl jobs are finished in a single day. That includes taking up the old floor, prepping the subfloor, laying the new floor, and cleaning up.

Question 32

Who installs the floor?

Accepted Answer

Our family and our own crew. We don't use subcontractors.

Question 33

Does the subfloor need to be prepped?

Accepted Answer

Vinyl needs a clean, dry, flat surface. Older Detroit homes often need a little leveling, and we do that as part of the job once we've shown you what's needed.

Question 34

Do I need underlayment?

Accepted Answer

Some planks come with an attached pad and some don't. We'll use what the manufacturer calls for and tell you at the estimate.

Question 35

Can vinyl go over my existing floor?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes, if the surface is flat, clean, and solid. Often the old floor is better removed. We'll check it during the visit and tell you what we'd do.

Question 36

How do I clean vinyl?

Accepted Answer

Sweep or dry-mop, then use a damp mop with a cleaner approved for vinyl. Skip harsh scrubbers and wax.

Question 37

Is vinyl good for pets?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It resists scratches and wipes clean after accidents. Keep nails trimmed and it'll look good for a long time.

Question 38

What should I do before install day?

Accepted Answer

Clear small items from the room and keep pets out of the work area. Let the new floor settle before putting heavy furniture back on it.

Question 39

What if something goes wrong with my floor?

Accepted Answer

Call us. If it's an installation problem, our 1-year workmanship warranty covers it.

Question 40

Why choose laminate?

Accepted Answer

Laminate is a budget-friendly way to get a wood look. It resists scratches, goes down quickly, and handles everyday family traffic well. It's a good fit for living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways.

Question 41

What laminate styles can I choose from?

Accepted Answer

Wood-look laminate comes in everything from light oak to deep walnut and gray tones. We bring samples to your home so you can compare them in your own light.

Question 42

Do you bring laminate samples to my home?

Accepted Answer

Yes, at your free in-home estimate. You'll see them next to your furniture and walls before you decide.

Question 43

How much does laminate installation cost?

Accepted Answer

Laminate is one of the more affordable options, though the range depends on the product and the room. We quote the whole job, including underlayment and installation, in writing after the free estimate.

Question 44

Is the in-home estimate free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We measure, go over materials, and give you a written quote, and you're under no obligation.

Question 45

How long does laminate installation take?

Accepted Answer

Laminate is a click-together floor, so it goes down fast once the room is prepped. Most laminate jobs are finished in one day.

Question 46

How do I clean laminate?

Accepted Answer

Sweep or dry-mop, and use a barely damp mop with a laminate-safe cleaner. Wipe spills right away, since standing water is hard on any laminate.

Question 47

How long will laminate last?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the product and how hard the room is used. Higher-grade laminate lasts longer in busy areas. We'll steer you to the right grade for each room.

Question 48

Do you remove the old floor?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We take out and dispose of the old flooring, then prep the subfloor for the new laminate.

Question 49

Does the subfloor need prep?

Accepted Answer

Laminate needs a flat, dry base. In older homes we often level low spots first. We'll tell you what's needed before we start.

Question 50

Can laminate go in a kitchen or bathroom?

Accepted Answer

Laminate is water-resistant but not waterproof, so it's best in dry rooms like living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways. For kitchens, basements, and baths, luxury vinyl plank is usually the safer pick, and we'll tell you honestly which one fits.

Question 51

Do I need underlayment?

Accepted Answer

Most laminate does, and some products have one attached. We follow the manufacturer's requirements for each floor.

Question 52

Can you install laminate on stairs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We do stair installs and can wrap treads and risers to match the rest of the floor.
