Real wood, installed by people who live here

BRC Flooring / 01

Real wood, installed by people who live here

BRC Flooring is a father-and-son team. Carlos Sr. has 25+ years laying floors and Carlos Jr. leads our installs. We handle hardwood for homes across Metro Detroit and do the work ourselves, start to finish.

Most of our hardwood jobs use engineered hardwood. It gives you the look and feel of real wood with a stable core that copes with Michigan's humidity swings.

Engineered or solid?

BRC Flooring / 02

Engineered or solid?

Both are real wood. Solid is one piece of timber, best on a wood subfloor above grade. Engineered has a real-wood top layer over a plywood core, so it moves less and can go places solid cannot, like over concrete.

For most of the houses we see, engineered is the better fit. Read about solid hardwood if you want to compare.

  • Engineered: stable, fits basements and slabs, wide plank options
  • Solid: a traditional choice for above-grade rooms on wood subfloors
  • Either one can be installed throughout living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms
Detroit homes and hardwood

BRC Flooring / 03

Detroit homes and hardwood

Plenty of older Detroit and inner-suburb houses have wood subfloors that can take a nailed or glued floor beautifully. Newer places in Troy or Rochester Hills often sit on slabs. We check what you have before recommending a product.

Winter dryness and summer humidity make wood expand and shrink. We leave proper expansion gaps and acclimate material before it goes down.

Installation and the rest of the job

Installation and the rest of the job

We remove old flooring, check and level the subfloor, and install planks straight, on a diagonal, or in a herringbone pattern if you want something custom. See stairs too in our hardwood stairs section.

Every install carries a 1-year workmanship warranty. Learn about our installation process or look at finished work in the gallery.

Your flooring questions, answered

Most rooms take a day. Bigger or patterned jobs may take two.

Engineered, yes, on a dry slab. Solid hardwood is not suited to basements.

A properly prepped subfloor greatly reduces squeaks. We fasten and level before laying.
